About us - Our History - Our Mission

__ Incorporated in 1971, and with a history of activity stretching back into the 1940s, the Canadian Hungarian Cultural Society of Edmonton (CHCSE) is an integral part of the Hungarian-Canadian community in Edmonton. We strive to promote and present Hungarian culture, arts, and history to all Canadians, and we work to provide a wide variety of programs and services to Edmonton’s Hungarian-Canadian community.

Our membership is open to individuals, senior citizens, and families who are interested in connecting with Edmonton’s Hungarian-Canadian community. We welcome new members at any time! Join us for year-round cultural, social, and recreational activities.

Activities of the CHCS encompass numerous programs open to the public:

  • Cultural programs, including concerts, speakers, dance performances, and our library
  • Historical programs, including the March 15 and October 23 commemorations
  • Seasonal programs, including Family Day, Spring Dinner/Dance, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, Harvest Dinner/Dance, and Mikulás/St. Nicholas Afternoon
  • Gala programs, including November’s Csardas Ball and December’s New Year’s Eve Ball
  • Active programs, including our folkdance ensemble and two soccer teams
  • Outreach programs, including August’s Heritage Festival
  • Social programs
